How to clean your heat-pump filters

Cleaning the removable filters is a useful part of looking after your heat pump between professional visits.

How often should I clean them?

Mitsubishi Electric recommends seasonal filter cleaning in its general advice. Your model’s manual takes priority; inspect more often if dust builds up quickly. A vacuum with a small brush attachment can remove loose dust. See Mitsubishi Electric’s maintenance advice.

Clean the removable mesh filters

  1. Switch off and isolate

Stop the unit and isolate its power as instructed by the manufacturer. If you cannot identify the isolator or reach the unit safely, ask for help.

  2. Open the panel gently

Follow the manual to release the panel and slide out the mesh filters. Avoid the sharp metal fins. Do not force clips or remove electrical covers.

  3. Remove the dust

Gently vacuum the mesh. Only wash a filter if its instructions permit it; keep water away from the inside of the heat pump.

  4. Dry and refit

If washed, allow filters to dry fully in the shade, away from heaters. Refit correctly, close the panel and restore power following the manual.

When is it time to call Heatfix?

Filter cleaning is one maintenance task, rather than a full service. If the unit still performs poorly, leaks, smells unusual or displays an error, tell us what you have noticed. We can assess whether it needs servicing, a deeper clean or separate fault-finding.

Send the model number and a description of the issue with your enquiry. Heatfix helps homeowners across Kāpiti, Porirua and Horowhenua.
